Bed & Breakfast at The White House

"My partner and I stayed overnight at The White House
following a meal at the excellent Harrow restaurant just
up the road. Annie and Christopher welcomed us to their beautiful home with tea
and biscuits in the living room. Our bedroom was delightfully furnished with a very
comfortable bed. And the fantastic bathroom - drench shower, organic lavender
toiletries - really made my morning!
Great choice of food for breakfast. Everything is well-chosen and top standard.
And as a lesbian couple we felt completely comfortable and welcomed, which sadly
still isn't always the case with B&Bs.
Rating: 5 out of 5 stars."

“A mixture of a little business and a lot of pleasure”
Bed & Breakfast at The White House

Trip type: Family

"I've stayed at The White House quite a few times, but this was the first trip with
my children (George 13 during the trip, and Millie 9).
The rooms are beautifully furnished, decorated and prepared. Lovely comfortable
beds and luxuriously appointed bathrooms.
Christopher and Annie, the owners, took the variety of purposes of this trip totally
in their stride.
My son had his 13th Brithday whilst we were there, he got croissants with sparklers
for breakfast!  We were spending part of the break on holiday and they were very
helpful with suggestions, leaflets, maps and so on.
I also had to do some work whilst down there and they were up early to feed me
toast and coffee at the crack of dawn, despite my saying they needn't get up!
One perennial highlight is the quality of the breakfast. Locally sourced yoghurts,
and produce - and, this time, a fresh kipper.  Annie's scrambled eggs are so terrific
that George declared them "too good to put ketchup on them".
Anyone with a 13 year old son will know how remarkable this is.
It's worth mentioning that The Harrow, a one-starred Michelin restaurant is just
up the road, with its award winning wine-list - the original reason for our staying
here.
I've slept in both of the rooms, and prefer the one on the higher level.
It faces the railway line, but I simply stop noticing the trains within a few minutes of
being there.
I thoroughly recommend The White House.  As a Yorkshireman, I can say with
confidence that it offers phenomenal value for money."

"Four of us have just cycled the Kennett and Avon Canal. Our first night stop
was at The White House. We chose well!  It is a lovely old house set by the
canal, furnished traditionally with a warm homely feel.
Chris and Annie the owners were friendly, helpful but not over-intrusive.
The bedrooms were lovely, decorated and furnished to a really high standard,
clean comfortable and everything you could ask for was there - from
bath robes,
toothbrushes, shower gels, cleansers, razors, tea, coffee and tasty biscuits etc.
We were able to sit in the lounge before we went out and help ourselves to drinks
and nibbles, (only two rooms so only us staying), we really made ourselves at home.
Chris gave us a lift to the local pub for an evening meal and was happy to pick
us up afterwards but we decided to walk home as it wasn't far.
Breakfast was the best everything fresh, top quality and really well cooked!
There was everything you could want at The White House, top marks."

"My partner and I have just returned from a fantastic stay at The White House.
The rooms are immaculate and boast some lovely features.
A lot of thought has gone into the decor and facilities.
Breakfast was fantastic and I couldn't fault any aspect. My partner loves her porridge
and declared it to be top notch! Having the Michelin starred 'Harrow' restaurant
literally 250m away was a fantastic bonus too.
Above all the hospitality was second to none and we felt very welcome.
We'll certainly be returning!"

Liked — Warmth of hospitality, lovely food, immaculate decor and facilities
Disliked — Proximity to train line occasionally disturbing

Pampered at The White House
Bed and Breakfast at The White House
HERSHAMBOY
SURREY
Mar 10, 2008

"I have just returned from a thoroughly enjoyable stay at this luxury B&B in the
heart of the Wiltshire countryside.
The White House is situated in a little dead-end lane alongside the canal in the
village of Little Bedwyn. Sadly, the stunning view is spoilt by a mainline train track,
the only negative to a beautiful village and accommodation.
The moment you arrive you are made to feel incredibly welcome from the hosts,
Annie and Christopher. The house is lovely with old-world charm.
The bedrooms are spacious, comfortable and clean.
The bathrooms are clean and well-equipped with great showers, plenty of clean
towels and nice touches such as new toothbrushes, face creams, etc. in case you
have left yours at home.
Beds are clean and comfortable and even have electric blankets for winter
warming. We went for dinner at the excellent Michelin-starred
The Harrow Inn
200 yards up the road (thoroughly excellent but booking essential) and, before
leaving The White House, Christopher had lit a roaring fire in the living room
and left us a tray of aperitifs to enjoy before going out to dinner.
We were also loaned torches in case it was too dark coming back.
Breakfast the next morning was a gourmet feast with fresh fruits and juices,
cereals, toast and croissants, local yoghurts and jams. also on offer delicious
porridge and a 'full English' perfectly cooked - all served with limitless quality
teas and coffee. Overall a really pampered and enjoyable experience –
"...a B&B of 5-Star standard. Thoroughly recommended...
...and I can't wait to revisit."
